Ask Us Everything

Does sanding and diamond grinding produce dust throughout the residence?
Affordable Marble Restoration uses caution in any residence and by means of our wet process for cleaning, honing and polishing, dust creation is avoided. Adjacent surfaces are masked to protect from splashing and areas serviced are thoroughly cleaned and detailed before our crews leave the property.
Will sealing the marble prevent staining and etching in future?
Most sealers today are penetrating sealers. They saturate into the stone and help repel moisture. This allows routine cleaning to be performed without the stone getting wet, leaving floors less slippery and ready to use. Although sealing is recommended to facilitate maintenance, these sealers do not coat the stone. This assures a natural finish without streaks. Caution must be used, however, to avoid contact with acidic substances including lemon juice, tomato sauce and many harsh cleaners, as contact with marble and limestone will etch and dull the finish.
How often should our marble be serviced?
This depends entirely on the traffic and wear at your installation. As a rule of thumb, annual ‘check-ups’ are recommended to keep track of the condition of the stone, and to minimize the need for a full restoration project.
Why can you not quote a ‘per square foot’ rate over the telephone?

We seldom can collect ample information from clients, regarding the type of stone which needs servicing and the degree of wear or damage, without inspecting the site ourselves. Once one of our technicians sees the site, we can calculate how many applications of abrasives might be required to restore the damage and renew the finish on the floor. A 500 ft entry floor, depending on the severity of the damage, may require ‘sanding’ the floor with many different grits of diamonds or screens or powders before powder polishing and applying sealer. Five cuts on a 500 ft floor equals 2500 ft of service. A big difference from a simple two step polish and seal.
